IN reply to 'Puzzled' (Star, May 3) regarding the Union Flag being allowed to be draped over coffins at military funerals of ex-service personnel at RC Churches.
I can inform him that at the Bishops Conference in London on November 20, 1998, the original ruling made in 1990 was reversed, and it is now permissible to take the Union Flag into RC Churches after a lot of misunderstanding.
The decision has come about as a result of considerable pressure and effort from the Catholic Bishop of the Forces, The Right Rev. Francis Walmsley, which was reported in the Catholic Herald on November 27, 1998.
