I AM writing regarding the reception for the treble cup-winning Saints hosted by St Helens Council at the town hall on Sunday, May 13.

I will begin by saying that the event was well deserved and it was pleasing to see so many people at the town hall to welcome the best team that Saints have had for a long time (some say the best ever) in the lovely sunshine.

What a pity then that the celebrations had to be spoiled by some team members whose attitude was less than professional and in one case was absolutely disgusting.

The crowd was full of families and young children and I am sure that they did not turn up to see one player cavorting about leaving nothing, to the imagination.

Ian Millward has been a revelation in coaching terms to the Saints team, he has undoubtedly been one of the reasons for the team's improvement. I was surprised therefore at his comments following the Leeds debacle regarding the players having time to celebrate. Surely celebrations should be left until the end of the season.

I am not a person who easily puts pen to paper in this way but I feel that the antics of some players on Sunday cannot be allowed to pass without comment.

I am a 'new' supporter this season in that I have started to attend games rather than watch them on television. I am seriously considering whether I want to continue to do this.

It is a pity that an otherwise great day on Sunday had to be spoiled. But spoiled it was, and I think that, considering the antics in front of a lot of very young children, an apology should be offered to the people of St Helens.
