PRESTON North End have been given another play-off boost this week with news that the Deepdale Stadium Redevelopment plans are set for final approval.

Months of negotiations between Preston Borough Council and the club over measures to reduce match day car parking problems and nuisance for residents have now been concluded, the council said.

Council planners intend to recommend that the green light be given for redevelopment work at the Deepdale site. In June last year Preston council gave approval in principle to the plans for redevelopment of both the Town End and East Pavilion stands. However, this was subject to a legal agreement requiring Preston North End to tackle the problem and inconvenience caused to local residents from match day parking.

Peter Bulmer, director of environmental services at Preston council, welcomed the apparent completion of the agreement.

He said: "We've been working very closely with the club to look at ways of limiting the problem of match day car parking -- particularly for local residents. We've now reached agreement which will see PNE putting measures in place to increase the use of public transport and off-street parking.

"It is attendance-based, so when the crowd thresholds are reached, more measures will be introduced by the club. Subject to minor points of detail, we are now recommending that Planning Committee on Friday (May 25) accepts this agreement to enable the ground redevelopment to be completed."

North End chief executive Tony Scholes said: "We reached agreement with the council and I'm glad, after due planning processes, that the council seem to see fit to grant the planning permission."
