A CAR dumped in the middle of a residential street has sparked anger among neighbours living nearby.

Neighbours say the red Citroen car was abandoned in The Crescent, Bamber Bridge, about three months ago.

Since then the vehicle has been ransacked by youngsters in the area and poses a danger to children playing throughout the area, they claim.

Crescent resident Joan Ball said: "It is right opposite my home and something needs to be done.

"This area used to have a bad reputation but the residents have worked really hard to keep the place nice and clean and tidy but this car is just an eyesore which ruins everything."

Although Joan said she has no idea who owns the car she has contacted New Progress Housing.

They own the former council-owned housing area and she wanted them to get the vehicle removed.

She said: "The girl at the Progress office in Bamber Bridge said it was out of their hands and there was nothing they could do.

"But it's a health risk to the children around here. We just want them to move the car because it's becoming a dumping ground for rubbish.

"People have already thrown an old vacuum cleaner and a child's pram inside it. It's a mess.

"And the other day one of the parents had to remove broken glass from the car in case children injured themselves."

A spokesman for New Progress Housing Association said: "We have contacted South Ribble Borough Council on at least four occasions and we do sympathise with the tenants.

"However, we cannot move the vehicle ourselves. All we can do is contact the council. But we will do everything we can."

A spokesman for South Ribble Borough Council said: "We have written to the DVLC and are awaiting a reply. This is council procedure."
