SAINTS' coach Ian Millward has warned there will be no room for complacency when his fourth-placed side visit basement club Huddersfield Giants on Monday (8.05pm).

Although he does not expect the McAlpine Stadium to prove a banana skin for Saints, Ian is sufficiently streetwise to realise the Giants are improving, and came close to their first win of the season against Leeds at weekend.

Huddersfield made successive trips to Knowsley Road in March, first when they were defeated 54-16 in a Challenge Cup tie and then when Saints triumphed 42-22 in a Super League clash.

Team news from Saints is that Vila Matautia has recovered from a leg injury which sidelined him versus Salford, but Wayne McDonald (broken jaw), Tommy Martyn (hernia recovery) and suspended Sonny Nickle continue to be absent.

The Giants' probable line-up is: Cooper; Frew, Costin, Cardoza, Gleeson; Thorman, Kusto; Laughton, Rowley, Marshall, Lomax, Atkins, McNamara. Substitutes: Molloy, Slicker, Molyneux, Langley.

The Alliance side lost 40-30 at Salford. Saints tries were scored by Mark McCully, Dwayne West, John Kirkpatrick, Mike Bennett, Ray Doolan and Martin Stubbs. John Braddish kicked three goals. Team: McCully; Stubbs, West, Doolan, Kirkpatrick; Bowker, Braddish; Hughes, McConnell, Price, Bennett, Stankevitch, Simms. Substitutes: Johnson, Farrell, Horrie, Williams.

Saints' players will parade their three trophies in honour of former Test star Tommy Bishop at a special function at the the Globe Hotel on Saturday from 8pm. Bish is currently on holiday from Australia.

Paul Wellens, Sean Long, Chris Joynt, Paul Sculthorpe and Keiron Cunningham are included in the Lancashire squad for the State of Origin game against Yorkshire at Headingley on Tuesday, June 5.

Non-executive director Professor Denis Smith has resigned from the Saints' board. He was appointed in January last year.

Saints have denied reports that Swansea Rugby Union club have made another bid of £400,000 for Keiron Cunningham.

Saints' coach Ian Millward is to press for a change in the inter-change rule which would increase the number of substitutions from six to 12. If this is accepted the blood-bin will be eliminated.

One of the few remaining links with the former St Helens Recs club was severed by the death on Monday of centre Albert Pimblett at the age of 82. A native of Thatto Heath, Albert also played for Huddersfield, Warrington, Salford and Great Britain.
