Royals' hopes of a third successive championship were ended by a powerful Crosfields outfit.
After being outmuscled in the first half, a late score by James Milligan left them trailing 10-6 at half time and Craig Littler subsequently equalised the scores before a late try and drop goal sunk them. Craig Littler, James Roby and Neil Rigby were outstanding for Royals.

Royals just failed in their bid for the cup and league double when they failed to get the rub of the green in a close championship decider.
Royals territorially dominated the first half but went in level at 2-2 at half time.
The game was decided in the space of two minutes when Royals had a try disallowed and Maries scored. Phil Cookley scored for Royals with Phil Platt landing a goal.
Man of the match went to Simon Dixon.
