VOLUNTEERS teamed up with residents from the Broadfield estate in Leyland to give the area a Spring clean!

With the helping hand of keen gardener and local resident Roy Clark, residents and volunteers from St John's CofE Church, in Leyland Lane, Leyland, tossed litter into skips.

They also replanted flower beds at the shops in Bannister Drive.

The weekend community clean-up was organised by church volunteer Hannah Silcock who rallied the troops for the weekend clean-up on the New Progress Housing Association-owned Broadfield estate.

Gill Bennett, tenancy services manager at New Progress, said: "Everyone worked hard and by the end of the morning the shrub beds looked great and the skips had been filled with litter and rubbish. It was well worth the effort."

Later in the day the army of cleaners went on to spruce up gardens in Northbrook Gardens, Leyland, with a helping hand from residents of the retirement homes.

The clean up was rounded off with a disco and party night at Northbrook County Primary School, in Earnshaw Drive, Leyland.

Gill added: "The weekend proved to be a big success for the community but we are especially grateful to the church volunteers who put so much effort in to make everything work so well."
