MAY I through The Journal say that Mr Peter Kane (sadly deceased), the former world flyweight boxing champion, who put Golborne on the map so to speak, did not get the turnout of Golborne people for the unveiling of his plaque, due to the fact that most people (young and old) did not know of this taking place until it was over and done with.

Most people of Golborne, especially the older people, were upset that they did not know, and I can only say to his family, if they and more people would have known more people would have gone.

No one who I have spoken recalled seeing any posters, advertisements or warning of any kind. I do no know who did the publicity building up to the unveiling but they did not do him any justice, which he deserved.

The people of Golborne chose the name 'Pater Kane Square' in respect -- thanks and well done to this man. I can only say to his family, a lot more Golborners would have gone to the official unveiling if they had known.

Many more people in Golborne, as well as myself and the dozens I have spoke to feel the same.

LK,

Golborner and Peter Kane recogniser
