A VERY disapointing weekend for Prescot & Odyssey CC started on Friday evening.

After restricting Sutton CC to just 83-8 in the Echo Cup and seemingly cruising to victory at 40 without loss, the batting crumbled and P&O finished agonisingly one run short of victory.

On Saturday in another nail-biter, P&O visited Wavertree and skipper Oughterson won the toss and elected to field.

This was the decision that would turn the game. Despite some tight bowing from the P&O attack, Wavertree declared on 163 off 48 overs.

In reply the P&O batsmen failed to negotiate the Wavertree bowling on an ever-deteriorating wicket, although five lbw decisions did not help the visitors' cause.

The game though looked to be heading for a draw until Oughterson was struck on the pad with two balls to go and the finger was again raised.

The Wavertree pro again was the difference between the two teams.

Match ball sponsor was Edward Symmons & Partners.

P&O 2nd XI also suffered defeat in a high-scoring game.

Batting first, P&O declared at 176-8 with Edwards (59) and O'Hara (40) the major contributors. But Wavertree gained victory with one over to spare having also lost eight wickets.

Match ball sponsor was Persimmon Homes.

The 3rd XI suffered a heavy defeat against Bromborough Hotel.

This week all three teams take on Birkenhead St Mary's.
