ST HELENS 1st XI were defeated by 19 runs when they visited Caldy on Saturday.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat on a very green wicket and were all out for 133 in 56 overs.

Steve Kenny, bowling unchanged for 28 overs, took 7-56 and was ably assisted by Adam Friar (2-43) with a run-out completing the dismissals.

In reply, St Helens began steadily with Horabin, Burrows and Tyms all reaching double figures, while Mark Potter was on 21 and looked well set when he was adjudged stumped.

Wickets then began to fall steadily and with three overs remaining St Helens lost their last wicket at 114 to go down by 19 runs with Kiwi Findlay taking 8-33.

St Helens 2nd XI had the distinction of winning the game against Bolton without a ball being bowled!

Bolton cried off unable to field a side at 1.10pm with the game due to start at 1.45pm.

The 3rd XI made the short journey to Newton on Sunday. They were asked to bat and reached 132 all out in 47 overs. Simon Whatmough (23) and Robert Supria (22) were the top scorers.

Newton achieved the target for the loss of no wickets although Luke Booth and Robert Supria, both only 15 years old, bowled good spells.

This weekend the 1st XI go to Highfield on Saturday, Formby on Sunday and entertain St Helens Recs on Monday.

The 2nd XI entertain Orrell Red Triangle on Saturday and make the short journey to St Helens Recs on Monday.

The 3rd XI entertain Formby on Sunday.
