LANCASTER University has scored its best ever rating in a national league table of best universities.

The local university came 8th out of 120 higher education centres according to a poll by The Guardian newspaper.

Bailrigg did particularly well in drama, business, English, media and history.

A university spokesman said: "Lancaster University consistently does well in national league tables based on teaching and research criteria and we are especially pleased to have come in the top ten of universities in the league table. League tables offer people thinking of coming to university a guide to the best courses and the Guardian rates 21 Lancaster departments highly."
