SHOPS and businesses were evacuated in Haslingden town centre after reports of a man armed with a gun going into a house.
Armed police were called out 11am yesterday after a passer-by said they saw the man go into a house on Manchester Road.
A section of Manchester Road was sealed off and police told people in businesses and shops were told to leave. We had one customer having her hair coloured and another with half a set of nails on."
Included in the evacuation were Seddon's newsagent, the Halifax Building Society, a solicitor's office and a double glazing shop.
Around 30 to 40 people waited on the streets at the back of Manchester Road to be given the all clear.
Burnley Communications Sergeant Geoff Simmons said: "We found it had been a false alarm made with good intent. We sealed the road off in case and diverted traffic for about half an hour."
