FANS of traditional and contemporary rock are in for a treat at The Citadel, tomorrow (Friday, May 25) when the Oysterband are on stage from 8pm.

And the Waterloo Street venue will play host to Justin Adams and the wayward Sheikhs on Saturday, June 2, also from 8pm.

A panto with a difference is coming to the Theatre Royal from Saturday, May 26 to Tuesday, May 29 in the shape of 'Mother Goose'. For in this version of the traditional tale, Priscilla, the goose that lays the golden eggs, is protected by a Power Ranger! Performances are at 1.30 and 4.30pm (no 4.30pm performance on Tuesday).

There will be bopping in the aisles when 'The Story of Rock and Roll' is at the theatre on Thursday, May 31 from 8pm. This features all the great popular music of the 1950s and 60s. presented by Karl Terry and the Cruisers, Held to Ransom, Joey and the Wheels with special guest, Len Quarry from the original Quarrymen.

And on Saturday, June 2 it's time to welcome back the Houghton Weavers, with their own special mix of folk music and mirth from 7.30pm.

The Poet and the Painter, yours truly and Carol Anne Eaves, are currently staging their latest exhibition, 'Reflections' at the Silhouette Dance Club, Boundary Road. Further details from 01744 20136/26338.

A Jazz Rendezvous takes place at the Star Inn, Rainford every Sunday from 8.30pm, admission is free.

Local R& B favourites The Swampstompers will be holding court again at the Bell and Barrel, North John Street, St Helens on Saturday, May 26. Admission is free and the music starts at 8.30pm.

The Forum at St Helens College is the venue for 'A Guard, Two Cats and a Mouse, All Whistling too Loudly', an art and design exhibition by students with learning difficulties and disabilities. This runs until Thursday, June 7.

St Helens Hospital League of Friends are holding a Garden Party in the hospital grounds on Saturday, June 2, starting at 2pm. It will be opened by Sister D. Luckett.

A Charity Shop, selling bric-a-brac, is being held in aid of the Sea Cadets at the former Confetti and Lace Shop, Hall Street, St Helens until Friday, June 1.

Haydock artist Alan Worswick is one of the painters featured in a special exhibition at The Framing Studio and Gallery, Rowbottom Square, Wallgate, Wigan which celebrates the 60th birthday of Bob Dylan. This runs until Thursday, May 31.
