POLICE are urging residents in the Haydock area to be on their guard for a conman who says work needs doing on property.
The latest incident occurred in Kenyons Lane, at about 10.45am on Friday, May 11, when an elderly man who was in his front garden was told work needed doing to his chimney which would cost £360.
When the occupier handed over the money, the man walked away and told him he was going to get a receipt but never came back.
The offender is described as 45 to 50 years-old, 5ft 10ins to 6ft tall, lean build with short grey hair. He was wearing wire rimmed glasses with a dark navy pullover and dark trousers.
