SUPERB pace bowling by professional Josh Marquet, who claimed 6-30, set up victory for Chorley against second placed Kendal at Shap Road.

Marquet ripped out three of Kendal's top four batsmen for just three runs and then also took the prize wicket of Terry Hunte before returning to mop up the tail. But what should have been a comfortable win was not without its anxious moments as Chorley, on 79-3, lost four wickets without addition, Alan Potts registering a hat trick.

Hero of the hour for Chorley was 15-year-old Tom Smith who opened the innings and batted for two hours on a testing track, remaining unbeaten for a match-winning 26.

Yesterday's National Knockout third round match against Wythenshawe at Windsor Park was eventually abandoned after Chorley had bowled the visitors out for 140 in 44 overs. Nigel Heaton took 3-21 and Ian Oakes 3-27. Persistent drizzle prevented Chorley from batting and the match will be replayed next Sunday.
