MORE than 400 local girls and women, ranging from toddlers to grandmothers, took part in the 5km (3.1mile) Race for Life through Sherdley Park.
Rain filled skies did little to deter the competitors from completing the course. Organised by St Helens Council and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, the Race for Life raises money for research into the disease.
The race was introduced in 1994 to give women the opportunity to remember and celebrate the lives of those who have been touched by cancer and to raise money for the fund which relies heavily on donations. Last year £5 million was raised by 120,000 women who took part in races across the country.
