CLASSY young defender Chris Armstrong might be a bit out of shape come the start of the new season - if he enjoys his new purchase too much.

Stretch, as he's known to his team-mates, picked up a brand new TV from Read, Franklin & Heywood in Bury Town Centre on Saturday, his prize for topping the Bury Times Player Ratings charts compiled from match performances throughout the season.

Armstrong finished with an average mark of 7.23 (out of ten) for the 25 games he played.

He just pipped club skipper Nick Daws, the consistent midfielder coming second with an average of 7.21 from 51 matches.

Armstrong, who might just be in for a bit of ribbing from Dawsey when the pair return after the summer break, was delighted with the £500 TV, donated by the Broad Street music and electrical good shop.

However, both the fans and his boss Andy Preece can rest assured that the 18-year-old won't turn into a couch potato and will return for pre-season training fit and raring to go.
