BLACKPOOL Sports Council's 16th annual Fun Run will take place in Stanley Park on Wednesday, June 20.

This year a junior event for children up to the age of 11 has been included. The junior distance will be 1600m (four laps of the track) and the event will start at 6.30pm.

The senior run will be over the usual attractive 5km course in and around Stanley Park, starting at 7.00pm.

All runners will receive a medal and certificate and free run number. Drinks and times will be available to all.

The Fun Run has a dual purpose. First to provide funds for clubs, schools and organisations and secondly to support the Sports Council's Sports Aid Fund on a 50/50 basis.

To date the fund, which was founded in 1984, has distributed more than £10,000 in small grants, mainly to young talented sports people who find themselves in need of financial assistance. The main source of the fund's income is the Fun Run so, if it is to continue its good work, people's support is vital.

The accent will be on fun -- and runners are encouraged to wear club, team or school colours with pride, but above all to enjoy themselves.

Sponsorship forms are available from Blackpool Sport Centre, Stanley Park, the Lido Pool, Lytham Road and Moor Park Baths, Bristol Avenue, Bispham.

It is hoped that clubs and individuals will turn out in strength to help their clubs or charities while helping the Sports Aid Fund to continue its good work. Anyone having difficulties obtaining sponsorship forms can contact Nigel Hough (347357) or Bill Woodhouse (882452).
