FANCY owning a guitar signed by Noel Gallagher? Or how about one of the few that Pete Townshend didn't smash?

These and other instruments signed by some of the biggest names in music can all be bid for at a charity auction on Saturday (June 2).

The Sedgley Park Road Runners were inspired to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust by little Beth Morris of Hollow Meadow, Radcliffe.

The five-year-old has suffered from leukaemia since she was 18 months old and desperately needs a bone marrow transplant.

So when the runners heard of her plight they decided to raise money for the Trust to help Beth and hundreds of others like her.

The Night with the Stars as the event has been named is the brainchild of Mr Peter Hilton.

He said: "I had an old guitar lying around and decided I would put it to use. We e-mailed various people and they all said they would help. We have been amazed by the response."

U2, Robbie Williams, Elton John, Jimmy Page, Status Quo, Mick Hucknall, Brian May and Hank Marvin have all signed instruments for the auction. And the Fender guitar company have donated three guitars that are each worth £800 even before they were signed by the Oasis and The Who's front men.

Other celebrities such as Martine McCutcheon and the cast of Emmerdale have also sent in signed gifts. And you could also bid for four signed Manchester United shirts, including one Roy Keane wore in a Champions League game.

The event will be held at Bolton's Last Drop Hotel beginning at 7pm. Although all tickets for the three course meal have been sold, anyone interested in attending the auction and enjoying entertainment by two acts will be able to pay a reduced price.

For further details, or if you wish to make telephone bids, you can call Mr Hilton on 0781 8045 804.

You can also help the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust by giving your support to a group of Weight Watchers.

Rachel Floyd, Janet Edge, Jan Dixon and leader Lynne Warren of Springwood Street, Ramsbottom, will be donning 1970s fancy dress and doing a five-mile fun run on June 10.

They will leave King George V Playing Fields off Ainsworth Road, Bury, at 2pm and will be calling in at several pubs along the way with their collecting buckets.

They also want plenty of people to sponsor them. Mrs Warren can be contacted on 01706 827595.
