DETECTIVES are warning people to be on their guard against bogus officers after a teenager was lured into a car by two men claiming to be police.

The 17-year-old was walking along Farm House Close, Blackburn, when he was approached by two men driving a Vauxhall car.

They said they were police officers and told him to get in the car where they detained him.

Police said the youth was questioned for several minutes about an incident and then released.

Det Sgt Paul Murphy, of Blackburn CID, said they could offer no explanation for a motive for the incident, but warned people to be on the look-out.

He added: "We are keeping an open mind about the motive for this, but if anyone is approached by anyone purporting to be a police officer they should always ask to see their warrant card to verify they are who they say they are."

The driver of the car was described as white, aged in his 30s, about 5ft 9 in tall, with short blond hair. He was wearing a black bomber jacket and tracksuit bottoms.

The second man was also described as white, skinny build, with short dark hair. He was wearing a blue polo shirt.

Anyone with information about the incident at about 7.45pm on Saturday should call Blackburn CID on 01254 353569.
