REGARDING your report (LET, May 29) on Blackburn with Darwen council's decision to award a contract to Interbrew to supply beer etc, along with the letter from L Yates (Letters, May 31) and the complaints from Margo Grimshaw (LET, May 31).
Do these people not realise that although Interbrew is a Belgian company it owns the brewery at Samlesbury, which employs people from Blackburn. It also owns the distribution depot at Shadsworth, giving employment to many Blackburnians.
The last contract was held by Interbrew (formerly Whitbreads) and probably the one before that, so it seems to me that the situation is staying the same.
I could understand all this fuss if the contract went out of town, for example to John Smith's or Tetleys!
M WIGNALL (Mr), Station Close, Rishton.
