MARGINALS are never boring, and should be free from voter apathy. Your count will be bubbling at 10pm tomorrow.

I accept that many people who aren't into politics find it difficult to choose between the parties. They could vote for the party they think will win; or just pick with a pin (they can't have you for it).

People will say do Mr Hague and Mr Kennedy really need that big house at Number 10? (or should Tony Blair spend more time with his young family?)

Others will say: "Wouldn't Geri Halliwell make a wonderful minister of pop music and weight loss after the election?"

The serious point being: people vote for all kinds of reasons. Only a small minority are really gripped by the ripple of pulse-throbbing campaigning debate.

When the feature film is made of Election 2001, Jack Nicholson could play John Prescott and Prunella Scales could be Lady Thatcher.
