SOUNESS today quashed speculation linking Rovers with a move for Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt.
The England international has been strongly linked with a £7 million switch to Ewood over the summer.
But, though Souness admits he's a big admirer of the player, he insists the cost of luring him from Old Trafford puts him out of range.
"I think Nicky Butt is a wonderful player but the combination of his tranfer fee and wages would probably put him out of our range," said Souness.
"The big money this summer is likely to be spent on bringing in a striker."
Souness is currently pursuing Ternana striker Corrado Grabbi who is likely to cost around £5 million.
