SAFETY conscious pupils from two Preston schools have been devising ways to promote personal protection.

In a scheme set up by Preston police, pupils at Moorbrook School, in Ainslie Road, Fulwood and Fulwood High School in Black Bull Lane, will come-up with creative and imaginative ideas to get the safety message across.

They will be expected to present their suggestions to as panel of judges -- with prizes awarded for the best idea.

The event, hosted by Fulwood school and supported by local businesses, is aimed at encouraging the youngsters to consider personal safety in their home and school environment.

Preston's mayor, councillor Alan Hackett, a senior police officer and Carolyn Ormerwood from Megabowl will be among the panel of judges looking at the relevance, research and entertainment value of the ideas.

Inspector Colin Moore, another judge, said: "The teenagers have been working really hard and it will be fascinating to see what they come up with.

He added: "I expect to see some real insights into the issues that concern young people and their ideas for keeping risks to a minimum."

Although the initiative has a competitive edge, one of the key messages is that there are no losers.

All the judges will be looking to award prizes for everyone's efforts.

PC Beverley Lodge, Preston police's youth involvement officer, said: "I would like to thank PC World, UCI, Megabowl, Warner Bros. and McDonalds for their generosity in providing prizes and helping to promote personal safety issues in Preston."

She added: "This is just the sort of partnership we need to make a difference."
