ROVERS keeper Brad Friedel looks set to get the nod for the United States' friendly with Ecuador at Columbus Crew tonight.

US national coach Bruce Arena has named the 30-year-old in his 18-man squad as he looks to put the finishing touches to his prepartions ahead of their World Cup qualifying double-header against Jamaica on June 16 and Trinidad and Tobago four days later.

"Our match against Ecuador will provide us with excellent preparation for our three World Cup qualifiers in the coming weeks," said Arena.

"It's always a benefit to get a chance to compete with a quality opponent.

"It is also certainly a bonus to have the opportunity to see most of our foreign-based players in this match while they are fit and coming off the European season, as well as the chance to look at some younger players."

Friedel is one of 13 players in the squad who play their football in Europe.

And he is set to take over from Kasey Keller in goal after missing his country's last game in April in order to play in Rovers' crucial away game at Grimsby during the promotion run-in.

Former Ewood favourite Tim Sherwood was today being linked with a move to Wolves.

Manager Dave Jones wants Sherwood to launch a Premiership promotion campaign and Spurs chief Glenn Hoddle could be willing to let him go as he looks to raise the cash necessary to finance his own summer spending spree.
