I SAW the other week that Councillor Caunce, a Haydock councillor for 50 years, was being recognised for his council work.

What I would like to know is, what he has done for Haydock. We haven't a hospital (which we used to have) no police station (which we used to have); mind you, we've got lots and lots of houses. The council tax alone must be astounding.

The parks when I was young were beautifully kept and now they're a disgrace. I take my grandchildren to Sherdley Park for a decent playground.

Young people have nowhere to go for leisure facilities -- and please don't say Haydock Leisure Centre as not everyone wants a gym and keep fit! I'm talking about swimming pools or cinemas. The land has been available many times but what do they do? Build more houses!

What has happened to all the money being paid by Haydock people? Newton-le-Willows is around the same size as Haydock and the councillors there are making it a much better place for young people. I will not be voting Labour. If they can't give us anything after all this time, there's not much hope, is there?
