YOUR car emissions can now affect the amount of road tax you pay.
From March a graduated tax system has been in place, if you were lucky enough to receive a check in the post with a rebate then you will appreciate the new system.
The system covers all models under 1.6 litres.
A year's vehicle excise duty costing from £120 to £160 depending on the car's emissions reading. Diesels have surcharges, although alternatively fuelled cars, such as gas or electricity, attract the lowest tax rate.
It sounds confusing but the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency has provided help in the form of an easy to follow website.
The site tells you in seconds what rate of tax you will pay. All you have to do is enter the make model, engine size, fuel type, and whether it is an auto or a manual, and the site flashes up your tax disc.
