ST HELENS Strider Paul Demore broke his club's third record of the season when he ran the Walton five-mile road race and recorded a time of 27mins 11secs, knocking 19 seconds off the previous record held since 1996 by Mike Simm.
Paul made his intentions clear right from the start as he put himself in the leading pack running strongly throughout, to finish eighth overall. Fellow Strider Les Abbott also took part and clocked a good 32 mins 46 secs.
Meanwhile in the Chorley 10-miler Gill Jones continues to progress, crossing the line in 63 mins 3 secs but further down the field Dennis Wharton ran a disappointing 67 mins 1sec.
The Striders are on the lookout for any budding athletes to join them in their training sessions which take place on Monday and Wednesday at 7pm from the YMCA.
