EARLESTOWN tasted defeat at home to rivals Eccleston in their WLCL cup game.

Scoring freely, the visitors finally posted a score of 156, I Conner (46) and K Smith (25) showing some good form. After losing J Allan (0) the home batsmen buckled down to the task in hand and led by P Harrison (42) fell just seven short of the total. R Creek 3-29 and M Gornall 3-35 the main wicket takers.

The game was a credit to both clubs. Sunday's game at Bobbies Lane was again a clash between these two sides. Eccleston put a score of 77 on the board, this mainly due to stalwart J Arnold 5-28 in 10 overs. In reply Earlestown batted sensibly and passed the total in 28 overs. The younger members of the team all performed well and are a credit to the development team.

The juniors beat a weak Orrell side, scoring 101-4 L Lomas (44) and S Melling (25) top batsmen. In reply the visitors were bowled out for 34.
