BLACKPOOL residents will turn a town centre car park into a huge playground for a birthday bash on Sunday to mark their first milestone on the road to a united future.

The gala on Seed Street car park is being held to celebrate the first anniversary of the Talbot and Brunswick Community Association.

And any money raised will be ploughed back into Association coffers in a bid to realise a dream to build its own community centre.

The day will begin at 10am when around 160 costume-clad youngsters will parade from Devonshire Road school down Caunce St and into Buchanan and Fisher Streets en route to the cheerful sounds of Blackpool's samba band Poco Loco.

Richard De Vere and his famous dog Schnorbitz will officially open the event which promises something for everyone among the action-packed programme of activities planned to run until 4pm.

Among highlights will be the chance to throw sponges at Tablet Ward councillor Philip Dune for 50p a throw!

Its also £6 to set up a car boot sale and anyone interested should arrive at 8.30am

Anyone who would like more information about the event, being held with the support of Blackpool Challenge Partnership, should contact Joanne Shepherd on (0775) 2626752 or Myra Law on (0125) 625023.
