COUNCILLORS have been advised to approve plans for a mobile phone mast just 60 metres outside an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The 20 metre telecommunications mast on a playing field in Millhead, Warton has also been opposed by local residents.

A total of 22 different objections from residents in 19 neighbouring properties have cited ongoing health and safety concerns, loss of visual amenity and increased traffic.

The council also received one letter from a neighbour with no objection to the plan.

However, council planning officers have dismissed residents concerns. They say that the mast will be shielded from the area of outstanding natural beauty by an existing bank.

Their report to the planning committee, which will meets to discuss the application next Monday, said: "The apparatus has been sited to minimise the impact on the locality and the surrounding area, and as such complies with local plan policy regarding telecommunications development."
