HAYDOCK 1st XI paid a visit to table-toppers Southport Trinity on Saturday and sent them spinning to a massive 104-run defeat.

Batting first, Haydock were in dominant mood with Shaun Lathom scoring a quick-fire 45 and the returning Scott Pickavance blasting 80 off only 49 balls. Skipper Darren Matthews and Tony Derbyshire kept up the good work and by tea Haydock had run up a total of 227-7.

Disaster struck for the visitors when they lost Rob Burke with a dislocated shoulder following a collision in the field early in the Trinity reply.

But their 10 men soldiered on and after Adams had been dismissed for a fortunate 41, Haydock took control to skittle the home side for 123.

Pick of the bowlers were Dave Burrows (4-29), Craig Sackfield (4-61) and Darren Matthews (2-5).

Back at Lyme Park the 2nds XI went down to Trinity seconds.

Batting first, Haydock scored 192 with Paul Roberts scoring 43 and Billy Hurst contributing a valuable 37. After the interval Trinity proved just too strong and passed the Haydock score for the loss of only four wickets.

The 3rd XI played Banks and again batting first Haydock knocked 121 with skipper Derek Gibson top-scoring with 37. In reply, Banks were dismissed for 96, John Pye returned 4-32 but the star was 14-year-old quickie Chris Ford who returned with amazing figured of 3-0!

On Sunday the 1st XI made the trip to West End who were teetering on 74-8 before they rallied to 152, Dave Burrows followed Saturday's fine bowling with 5-6.

After the interval Haydock never came to grips with conditions and were dismissed for 73, the only highlight of a disappointing game being the young Parkinson brothers their first game together in the 1st XI.

The Dieter Metals-sponsored Haydock Juniors enjoyed mixed fortunes this week. The under-18s lost by just two runs to Newton while the under-15s went down by six wickets by Winstanley Park. However, the under-13s enjoyed a 99-run victory over St Helens Recs with Liam Parkinson scoring 112 not out.
