DETECTIVES are warning people to be on their guard after a series of sneak thefts at workplaces.

Officers say the three break-ins, which all happened during the day on Wednesday, could be linked as all the properties were close together in Blackburn.

In the first theft a camera and video-making equipment were stolen from sheltered accommodation in Lancaster Place.

In the second, thieves went in to solicitors Howard and Co in Wellington St John's Street and made off with a wallet.

Three handbags were taken from Louise Southworth's dental practice in Richmond Terrace in the third incident.

Det Con Alan Bentley, of Blackburn CID, said the fact that all three thefts occurred within such a small area meant they were investigating the possibility they were all linked.

He said: "It is important for people to be as careful at work as they are at home and remember that thefts can occur from the workplace as well.

"Any valuables should always be kept in a secure place, preferably locked away if at all possible.

"We would appeal for any witnesses to these crimes to call us at Blackburn CID on 01254 353569.

"Alternatively people can call Crimestoppers, confidentially if they desire, on 0800 555 111."
