A GROUP of Bury pensioners were left stranded by their coach driver in Cardiff after watching their favourite team win promotion to the Premier League.

Bolton Wanderers fan Edith Davis, of Walshaw Road, Bury, had travelled to the Division One play-off against Preston North End , with her sister and brother-in-law.

After watching Bolton win 3-0 and enjoying the post-match celebrations, they made their way to the Millennium Stadium's coach park, only to find their lift home had gone.

But luckily for the pensioners another group of fans saved the day!

Mrs Davis, of Walshaw Road, Bury, said: "We arrived back at the coach park at 6pm but we just couldn't find our coach.

"We went up to a police motorcyclist for help and a few of them went to all the coaches which were left to try and get us a seat but they were all full.

"The last coach left Cardiff at 7.15pm and by that time we had been joined by other fans from four different coaches who had also been left stranded. I don't understand why there was a mad rush to leave."

The pensioners were saved by a group of fans who had hired their own coach and had seats to spare. The group eventually left the stadium at 8pm.

Mrs Davis said: "We weren't given any time to be back at the coach park.

"We left the stadium after the presentation and made our way straight to the coach.

"I don't think 6pm was an unreasonable time considering the crowds and the distance to the coach park."
