TOUGH taskmaster Graeme Souness today called on Ewood hot-shot Matt Jansen to fire the goals to guarantee Rovers' Premiership survival.

Former England Under 21 star Jansen set the First Division alight last season after finding the net 24 times to finish up as the league's second top scorer.

And Souness is hoping he can blaze a similar trail next term as he looks to consolidate the club's position in the top flight following the euphoria of promotion.

"The target for Matt is to get us 15 goals next season," said Souness.

"Anything more than that and he'll have had a very, very good season.

"That's not to say I don't think he's capable of getting 20, because I think he can.

"But I'd be delighted if he hit my first target because he hasn't really had the chance to show what he can do in the Premiership before."

Jansen is a pivotal figure in Souness's vision of the future so, when the 23-year-old expressed his desire to be a part of those plans by signing a new extension to his contract last week, the Rovers boss was understandably delighted.

"That's not only a great thing for the club, it's a great thing for Matt as well," said Souness.

"He's at the right place and working with the right kind of people who can help to make him a better player.

"The likes of him, David Dunn and Damien Duff proved they were top men in the First Division last season.

"Now, they've got to go out and show they can do it in the Premier League." Before the big kick-off, however, Souness will step up his search to bring in new blood.

But, despite continued speculation linking him with big money moves for established Premiership stars like Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt, a top-class strike-partner for Jansen remains top of his summer wish list.

"The big money this season is likely to go on a striker because they're like gold dust," said Souness.

"But, if we can find two people who can score us 20 goals next season, then you can almost guarantee now we'll still be in the Premiership this time next year."

Italian goal-ace Corrado Grabbi remains top of his shopping list after hugely impressing Souness during a recent scouting trip to Italy.

The 25-year-old is currently the second top scorer in Serie B after bagging 20 goals for Ternana this season.

But, with Serie A sides Udinese and Fiorentina also competing for his signature, Rovers would have to cough up a fee in the region of £5 million to tempt him to England.

Meanwhile, Rovers have now reshuffled their pre-season schedule in preparation for their Premiership return.

Graeme Souness's promotion heroes will now play three games abroad during their tour of Austria and Germany -- not two as first planned.

Rovers' original game against German side LindeSchwandorf has been scrubbed from the calendar altogether.

So they will now kick off their friendly campaign with a warm-up game against Austrian outfit Sport-Union Abtenau on July 23.

Then, they will move onto the second leg of their tour, which features two games in Germany.

TSV Crailsheim will provide the opposition at the Schoneburg Stadion on July 25.

And they will round off the trip with a match against VFC Plauen two days later before returning home for friendlies with Port Vale, Wrexham, Bradford and Barcelona.
