UNCERTAINTY still surrounds the future of Preston boss David Moyes.

Officials at the club have rubbished recent media reports linking the Preston manager to the vacant position at Premiership club Southampton.

But speculation still persists that Moyes is interested in taking on the manager's role at Southampton.

PNE have refused to issue a statement about the rumours but have not issued an outright denial simply stating that "David Moyes is still the manager of Preston North End."

Southampton have also refused to issue a statement on the matter but chairman Rupert Lowe is refusing to rule Moyes out of the running for the manager's position at the club

Although he admitted he had spoken to lots of people he said they still had more to talk to yet and an announcement would be made when the process was finished. It is believed that the search for a long-term successor to Glenn Hoddle will continue for the next couple of weeks.

The attraction of a club like Southampton to Moyes would appear to be strong. An established Premiership club, the Saints finished a healthy tenth place in the division last season. And the club has shown its ambition by building a new custom built stadium which will be ready for use for the start of next season.

But against these factors Moyes is settled in the North West with a young family and may be reluctant to move to the south coast.

PNE reserves look set to play their home fixtures at Lancaster City next season instead of at Bamber Bridge's Irongate ground.
