I wrote to the Journal of May 18 charging the candidates in the election with apathy, and I think the fact that only one candidate bothered to reply just about makes me correct.

There are four candidates fighting in Leigh not just one, so I would like to thank Mr Oxley for being the only one who could be bothered to defend himself. However, I was very sorry to see that he might not get to Midland Close because I would have liked to ask him why the last Tory Government closed every coal mine in Lancashire and devastated the cotton and steel industries, as well as presiding over record interest rates, record levels of unemployment and introducing the poll tax.

If he can't make it to Midland Close, perhaps he could tell us in the Journal.
