MANY carers in East Lancashire endure a living nightmare of emotional, physical and financial stress.
Now, they are pleading for a fair deal -- as Carers Week 2001 is launched.
Gerald Griffiths, who chairs the Hyndburn Carers' Focus Group, said: "We save the Government billions of pounds each year, and we ask for the support and recognition that will enable us to carry on with the work we do.
"Without proper support many carers live a life which is a nightmare of emotional, physical and financial stress.
"And this is all because they've done the right thing and chosen to look after someone close to them." Carers Week 2001, which begins on Monday, will feature displays and activities around East Lancashire which will draw attention to the plight of carers.
It will particularly aim to encourage the Government, GPs and health authorities to provide better support.
