PLANS for a study into the how a community could be improved have been unveiled.

Some £20,000 is being spent by Lancashire County Council on the project in Great Harwood.

It is part of the Building Better Communities Strategy organised by the county for several areas of Lancashire.

The strategy is being implemented by the Accrington, Church and Great Harwood Partnership, an organisation which aims to tackle deprivation and give people a place they can be proud to live in.

The group is already playing a pivotal role in regeneration of West Accrington and Church after the area was given a multi-million Single Regeneration grant from the Government last year.

It is now hoped the £20,000 grant to examine ways of regenerating Great Harwood will lead to more private investment in the area.

County Councillor George Slynn, who represents Great Harwood, said: "This money is designed to be the catalyst for improvements in the area.

"We have already seen what can be achieved with private help with the arrival of the new Co-op in Queen Street.

"They have paid for a new library to be built as well as their new shop, which will be an asset to Great Harwood."
