BURNLEY boss Stan Ternent has scotched rumours that he is chasing two Under 21 Greek internationals.

Greek sources have linked the Burnley manager with central defender Stathis Tavlaridis and striker Dimitri Papadopolous.

But Ternent said is wasn't the case.

"They have linked me with those because I went to watch the England Under 21 international against Greece.

"I haven't got control over which players are linked with Burnley Football Club but it is pie in the sky.

"It is pure speculation."

Tavlaridis plays for Greek National League side Iraklis while striker Dimitri Papadopoulos, who scored the opening goal in the 3-1 victory over England, plays for Greek A Division side Akratitos who have been promoted to the Greek top flight for next season.

Both are said to be valued at around £1m.

Ternent has already had huge success in bringing Greek goalkeeper Nik Michopoulos to Turf Moor and that is why the sources in Greece have been quick to connect him with other Greek players.

There could be problems signing Tavlaridis anyway.

The 21-year-old is currently carrying out his National Service which means it would be difficult to leave the club with immediate effect. And Tavlaridis, who has been at Iraklis since 1996, also renewed his contract with the club last October, signing up until 2006, which could mean his price would rise.

He is rated as one of coach Angelos Anastassiadis' top players.

Meanwhile, Ternent had nothing new to report on the Gareth Taylor situation.

The Clarets boss has been talking to the 28-year-old's agent and had hoped to seal a deal this week -- with some speculation that is would be completed yesterday.

However, the Manchester City striker is on holiday and Ternent says it is all quiet.

"Nothing has happened. He is still a Manchester City player at the moment and is officially until June 30 when his contract runs out," said the Burnley boss.

Elsewhere, Blackpool assistant manager Mark Seagraves has denied reports that the Seasiders are interested in Clarets keeper Paul Crichton.

There had been a whisper that the newly promoted Second Division side were prepared to enquire about the former Grimsby and West Brom goalie.

Crichton, 32, has seen his chances of first team football limited at Turf Moor as he slipped down to second choice with the form of Michopoulos.

But Seagraves has dismissed the link as 'just speculation.'
