A TODDLER was found wandering around the streets in his pyjamas in the early hours of the morning by a taxi driver.

The two-year-old boy was found on the corner of Croft Lane in Hollins, Bury, at 5am on Saturday.

He was cold, terrified and unable to tell police where he had come from. The boy was taken to Whitefield police station and cared for by staff while officers carried out door-to-door inquiries in the Hollins area.

The mystery was solved about four hours later when a distraught woman from the Newton Heath area of Manchester rang the police to register her child missing.

DS Heywood said: "The boy had been staying with family friends in Hollins and had walked out of the house during the early hours."

"The baby-sitters were distraught by what had happened but, thankfully, mother and son were reunited later that morning.

"The child's disappearance from the house was purely an accident."
