THE Princess Royal braved Blackpool storms to visit a new horse sanctuary in the town.
Princess Anne officially opened Penny Farm, a 110-acre, £1.1 million recovery and rehabilitation centre, run by the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILHP), at Preston New Road, Peel.
The centre can house 65 rescued ponies and horses, and has an isolation unit, vet treatment area and covered exercise arena on the site.
Penny Farm, named after ILPH benefactor Penny Thornton, will be open to visitors from June 16. It has a gift shop, information centre and coffee shop and admission is free.
Princess Anne, who is the ILPH's President , said: "Without the help of Penny Thornton and other people who have helped by raising funds we would not have the capacity to extend the range of the ILPH's work to the North West. "
