are alarming WE are told (LET, June 5) that violent crime has risen by 19.4 per cent. Jack Straw says that people should not be alarmed. If I were a victim included in these crime figures I would be very alarmed. In 1997 Tony Blair said: "We shall be tough on crime and the causes of crime." Not much has happened to my mind to rein in the criminal fraternity.
