PUB regulars showed a measure of their appreciation for runners who went the full distance for the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust.
More than 150 sponsored volunteers took part in the five-mile run, those armed with buckets calling en-route at pubs to collect cash from customers.
Also joining in were runners in fancy dress, with the competition for best outfit judged by five-year-old Beth Morris of Hollow Meadow, Radcliffe, who is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant.
The event was organised by the Bury Friends of the trust, who aim to raise £5,000, the amount needed for the testing, treatment and additional expenses of one donor.
So far, the run has brought in almost £2,500, with the amount to be boosted by the proceeds of a charity car wash by staff at Radcliffe Swimming Pool. Washers will be at the ready from 10am until 1pm today and tomorrow (June 15-16) in the pool car park.
Carol Snowdon, who helped organise the run, said: "People loved it and felt they just had to do something to help."
"The money just kept flowing in, as it needs to, but the priority now is to find a donor for Beth."
Anyone wishing to become a bone marrow donor is asked to ring Carol on 07939 144983.
