WE'VE got half an answer to Clock Face history buff Janet Feeney's two-part puzzler (May 17) regarding the precise birthplaces of authors Joseph Stamper and Sue Dyson.
John E. Fairhurst of Clipsley Crescent, Haydock, says that Stamper was born at 25 Hamer Street, St Helens. "His sister, Dolly was my grandmother who married Joseph Fairhurst, as is mentioned in the book about his early life, 'So Long Ago'".
Granny's real name was Marion, but she was nicknamed Dolly, says John, "because she was like a little doll".
THANKS, pal. And now we still await an answer regarding Sue Dyson's St Helens birthplace. Anyone able to help?
