A NEW community tree nursery is to be opened in Darwen to help residents grow trees from local seeds.
An 'Action Day' is being planned by Groundwork, Blackburn on Wednesday June 27 at Millbrook Street allotments, Lower Darwen to kick-start the project. Residents are urged to come along and help with fencing, preparing planting beds and planting the trees.
The initiative, which aims to rear small tree saplings which have been grown from local seed, follows a theme developed by the TV show Groundforce. Once the trees have become more stable through using the tree nursery, they can be transported to sites in the area to enhance local urban landscapes.
