PLECKGATE High School's Year 11 pupils have created a £1,000 picnic area for their own exclusive use.
The pupils designed and organised the plans for the area at the Blackburn school. Teachers gave them the budget and asked them to come up with a project - the only condition that it be of a long term benefit.
The school posed the task to the year 11s and after much debate the pupils decided to construct a picnic area with benches and plants. They formed a group to oversee the project, headed by governor Alan Walsh. The students were16 year-olds Jenny Harwood, Abid Patel, Shama Ashraf, Jonathan Malcolm, Craig Holden.
It has now been opened and will be used for future year 11s as a privilege.
