ANYONE would think that we were still a colonial power, able to disregard and override the religions and mores of indigenous peoples. I am referring to the four Britons who were recently sentenced to 500 lashes. To us, this may seem a vicious, outmoded and barbaric sentence for any so-called civilised, enlightened society.
However, they blatantly disregarded the laws of a country in which they were guests. It is well known that the authorities turn a blind-eye to westerners drinking in private, but these people insulted their hosts by illegally trading alcohol, which is taboo to Islam.
They deserve everything they get. It is a pity that in our politically correct society we do not have similar sentencing, then people here could walk the streets without fear of being mugged or murdered.
