BACUP remain on course for a league and cup double but had to survive a late scare at Burnley in the Worsley Cup semi-final yesterday.

After beating Transco Lancashire League leaders Rishton on Saturday, the

Lanehead side are confident they can regain their champions crown and Turf Moor again proved a happy hunting ground as they clinched a place in the final of the prestigious cup competition where they will face Ramsbottom.

But this was not before Burnley teenager Stephen Holden got the sizeable crowd going with a last wicket partnership with Chris Wright which kept the spectators on the edge of their seats until the final over.

Needing 30 runs off the last three overs as they chased 188, 19-year-old Holden never stopped trying and his 20, which included a number of fours, left Burnley needing 12 off the last six balls.

Bacup pro Shaun Young admitted to a few tense moments, until David Ormerod's first ball in the last over dislodged the stumps leaving Bacup celebrating a final appearance.

"The two lads did well for the final wicket," said the Australian, whose 53 was significant in the outcome. "I was pretty confident with five or six overs to go, although it did get a bit tense. But that is usually the way in one-day cricket."

Burnley were chasing 188, Young bumping the total up with his innings and Terry Lord adding 25 before he became one of Wright's four victimsclaimed at a cost of just 24.

Burnley will be kicking themselves that the two openers Ben Law (37) and Ian

Whitehead (2) were both run out.

Peter Killelea dislocated his shoulder after celebrating a great catch to dismiss David Brown (34) and Lord also suffered an injury for Bacup.

Then enter the Wright and Holden show for the ninth wicket partnership -- but they were left with just too much to do.
