A 53-YEAR-OLD mother of two has realised a dream after being awarded an MBA in Education Management from Lincoln and Humberside University.

Jackie McGready, of Quebec Street Blackburn, said the course was "a challenge". She studied from home for three years and wrote a 22,000 dissertation during the evenings. "I've never had any formal qualifications. I thought that I couldn't retire without ever gaining any. It took me three years to complete."

Jackie said she was inspired by her children. "My daughter and my son both have degrees and I thought, 'I don't want to be left out.'"

She is hoping the award, which is specifically designed for public and private school bursars will help her in her role as a bursar for Blackburn and Darwen Council.
